Jesus – The Light & Truth of God

newjerusalemPsalm 43:3:

O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

David spoke of God’s “light” and “truth” which were to lead him to God’s “holy hill”. What is this light and truth? And what did David mean by holy hill?

The light and truth of God are Jesus and His Word. Notice how this is indicated by the following scriptures:

Light

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” – John 8:12

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105

Truth

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” – John 14:6

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” – John 17:17

God’s “holy hill” is basically Heaven. Psalm 24:4 talks about ascending to it; and Christians expect to ascend to Heaven at the second coming of Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; John 14:2-3).

Therefore, it is Jesus and His Word which will lead us to Heaven. If we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and follow His Word, there will be found a place for us in eternal glory.

Power in the Word of God

bible61

Ps. 29:3-11

“3. The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters.

4. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

5. The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.

6. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.

7. The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire.

8. The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.

9. The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.

10. The Lord sitteth upon the flood; yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever.

11. The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.”

I find it significant that this Psalm focuses so much on the voice of the Lord and then associates it with God’s ability to strengthen and bless His people. Why is that? Because God’s voice is His Word. And His Word promises strength and blessings upon His people. In other words, there is power in the word of God!

Effective Witnessing

biblePs. 26:3-7: “For thy lovingkindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy truth. I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked. I will wash mine hands in innocency: so will I compass thine altar, O Lord: That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.”

David connected his conduct with witnessing for the Lord. Why is that important? Because if our counduct is not godly, our witness will be effected. If people see us testifying about the Lord but not living according to His Word, they will not take us seriously. They will think we are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites.

Nature’s Laws are God’s Laws

Job 38:12: “Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place”?

The Laws of nature are subject to the commands of God. In other words, nature’s laws operate by divine command. It is not even fit to call them nature’s laws, in my opinion, because that takes away from God’s glory. They should really be called the divine laws of the universe; so that all may know that God is the creator and sustainer of life.
