God Wants Us to Obey Him

Psalm 105:5; 45:

“Remember his marvelous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;… That [you] might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise ye the Lord.”

Psalm 105 talks about the way God has blessed and led His people, with the conclusion that they should obey Him as a result. Obedience is key in our relationship with Jesus. Jesus died for our sins, not that we should keep sinning, but so that we would forsake our sins.

If we keep sinning, we put Jesus to an open shame and lose out on God’s blessings of obedience. This will even cost us our salvation. Now, don’t get me wrong. We are not saved by obedience; but someone who is truly saved will obey God out of love. If they are being disobedient to God, it goes to shows that they don’t really love Him. Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Disobedience is also a rejection of Jesus. And no one who rejects Jesus will be saved.

Salvation & Sanctification

Psalm 56:13:

For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

The statement that King David made above is also applicable to the Christian experience. God has delivered us from death—the penalty of sin. Jesus died for our sins on the cross so we don’t have to. Along with saving us, God also enables us to walk, that is to live, according to His Word.

Second Peter 1:3-4 puts it this way:

…his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

In other words, we are not only saved from the penalty of sin, we are also saved from the power of sin. We don’t have to sin. Moreover we shouldn’t be sinning. That is what God wants to teach us. Not only so we can be a glory to His name and blessing to others in this life, but so we can prepare for the eternal life of righteousness to come.

Giving Equals Blessings!

Psalm 41:1, 2:

1. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

2. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

This passage really resonatges with me, because I can relate to it. I remember when I was finishing my 9 year federal prison term. I was a Christian by now. I was in a holding cell, awaiting deportation to Poland. There was a Mexican national with me, awaiting deportation to Mexico.

I had about $270 in my pocket. The Mexican guy mentioned that he had no money for the bus to get from the location of his deportation to his home, which cost $15. I happily gave him the money for his bus ticket.

There are blessings in giving; and I knew that I would need all the divine help that I could get in days ahead. I was getting deported to a country that I knew nearly nothing about. I was born there, but left with my family when I was three years old. However, I’m happy to say that God didn’t let me down.

My deportation took place over two years. Currently, I am the owner of a flat worth over $50,000 and I have a steady income. God is good.
